Product Engineering

Product Engineering develops turnkey projects for complete vehicles (body and trim), starting from a clay model supplied by the customer and progressing through the following phases:

  • Feasibility studies in close cooperation with Design and Process Engineering in order to give/receive the right information to optimize the product
  • Clay model approval
  • Exterior and interior Master Models construction
  • Component definition (in cooperation with the customer)
  • CAD studies and detail design
  • Structural calculations in static conditions
  • Crash simulations
  • Prototype construction
  • Part list definition
  • Integrated project planning in cooperation with component suppliers
  • Support to the customer during tests, project review, pilot manufacturing, and final production start-up
In the mechanical area, Comau develops drawing, design and calculations for:
  • Engine components
  • Engine installation and compartment layout
  • Gear boxes and transmissions
  • Suspensions
Comau is able to design components made of different materials, in particular:
  • Magnesium components
  • Aluminum body and structure
  • Interior trim in plastic (RIM, SNC, Polypropylene)

For rolling-stock projects, Comau can develop the design of :

  • Bogies
  • Mechanical parts of railcars
  • Coaches: - Steel structures
